We had loads to celebrate last year, with some great collaborations, events and the launch of our new look! Our gorgeous new packaging and logo were created by illustrator extraordinaire Dora, whose feminine designs are inspired by Japanese prints, burlesque, and 50′s tattoo design, with a modern edge. Well established now on the international art scene, she has had work featured in Selfridges, Mu-Tate Britain, and locations in Paris, New York, and Berlin. She’s definitely one-to-watch!
March saw the launch of Nails at The Painted Lady, our favourite vintage hair and beauty salon in Shoreditch. Cocktails were flowing, and guests were treated to manicures, special fish pedicures, and a Lipcote lip service by makeup artist Luisa Savoia, who used red lipstick and Lipcote to create makeup looks that perfectly matched the gorgeous vintage hair by salon owner, Belinda Hay.
In July we were at Lovebox festival in Victoria park, where our friend DJ Nikki Beatnik was playing a set for none other than Kelis! The revelers went crazy for our special limited edition canvas bags with a gorgeous illustration of Nikki on them, created by Dora, and of course, containing Lipcote to keep their pouts perfect even in the rain and mud! July also brought us the ‘Great Birds of the British Isles’ exhibition in Bristol. This was a fantastic exhibition of work by the Great Birds, a collective of female artists including our very own Dora, so we just had to shout about it! The launch night was great fun and a roaring success.
September came around quickly, and before we knew it we were working (partying!) at Vogue’s Fashion Night Out! We teamed up with three great brands for the night; Lipcote was in French Connection‘s goody bags for the shopping event at their flagship store, we celebrated the launch of the ‘Style Me Vintage – Makeup’ book by Katie Reynolds at The Powder Room, and partied the night away at the Christian Louboutin party, where makeup artist Lauren Hersheson used Lipcote to give fashionistas and it-girls perfect pouts!
And even after all the excitement of the summer, we weren’t ready to rest yet! In October we had our Lipcote stand at Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model Live at Excel in London. We gave lip makeovers, chatted with old Lipcote fans and new converts, and generally had a great time watching all the fantastic outfits go by! In November we took our giant Lipcote pack to Boots’ Girls’ Day Out in Glasgow, where we met some lovely ladies although it was pretty cold for us Lipcote fairies by that time! Then in December we were at Clothes Show Live in Birmingham for a week, where we watched high-street fashion shows, lots of towering heels walking around, and marveled at the stars of The Only Way Is Essex as they trotted by the stand! As well as giving literally hundreds of lip-makeovers to the gorgeous girls there, using the fantastic Lola Lipsticks!
Throughout the year we collaborated with Anita’s Vintage Fashion Fairs in London, with Lipcote in goody bags, and used by the makeup artists for vintage style makeovers. We also gained a celebrity following that any brand would be proud of – Rihanna’s makeup artist revealed that she loves it to keep her lipstick perfect, Daisy Lowe listed us as one of her makeup bag essentials, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s makeup artist Florrie White told us that since discovering Lipcote, Rosie keeps one in her own makeup bag! And not to be forgotten, Lipcote was listed as one of Vogue‘s Best Of Beauty for 2011! So not only are we a Saturday night out essential, we’re also a red carpet one!
So as you can see, we had a busy time, but we’re not about to stop! Same as last year, we’re still running loads of great competitions and giveaways, and we’ll be at other fantastic events this year too. To keep up-to-date with all our activities and find out where we’ll be next, ‘like’ us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
Love, Lipcote x
