CEW Awards Demonstration Evening Round-Up & Beauty Reviews

November 5, 2015

You may not already know, but last month we were so excited to be part of  the CEW awards demonstration evening in Kensington Olympia, London. Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW), supports women in the beauty industry with the Beauty Awards (or ‘Beauty Oscars’ as they’re now affectionately known), recognising innovation and creativity amongst tried and tested beauty products both classic and new. As you can probably guess, we are really honoured to be up for the ‘Best British Brand’ category and have our fingers and toes crossed for the winner to be announced in May!

Amongst a wealth of amazing creams, gadgets, tools and makeup, it was hard to choose an edit of the top products we luckily found lying in our big, and we mean HUGE, goodybags to take away and review for ourselves from the night. An important part of the CEW Awards demonstration evening is that everyone who attends has to nominate winners from each category themselves!

Here are 10 products we find especially impressive. There’s a few old favourites that just never seem to fail, along with some new discoveries. Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below! X

LOLA by Perse UK, Matt Long Lasting Lipstick in Cheeky Cherry, £12.00

A new British makeup beauty brand, and currently exclusive to Marks & Spencers this pillar box red lippy is one to watch. Keep your eyes peeled for a full review on our Lipstick Finder soon!

Dr Organic, Rose Otto Facial Serum, £12.99

An affordable facial serum that feels like it should cost an arm and a leg more, and smells like you’re in a beautiful rose garden. Dr Organic specialise in ethical beauty and all products are sulphate and paraben free, an added bonus to the immensely moisturised feel of our skin after a few days using this.

This Works, Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, £16.00

Another brand we love for its pure, natural ingredients this cult product is a great reliever for those suffering from anxiety when trying to fall asleep. There are no harsh chemicals in this, only essential oils which meant we enjoyed spraying our pillows and ourselves with a little before bed. The blend of lavender and chamomile is an age old remedy for calming the mind, meaning This Works really live up to their name!

Australian Bodycare, Treatment Shampoo, £8.50

With such a vast choice in shampoos and hairstyling products in the market now, product build up can often leave scalps irritated and flaky. Even though it can sometimes feel boring, we find the best thing to do is strip back to a simpler formula, and luckily Australian Bodycare have managed to balance not only a refreshing and nourishing shampoo with the added benefit of tea tree oil, but in the meantime not compromised on style or experience, with no yucky medicinal smell to put you off.

Dolce & Gabbana, ‘Intense’ Eau de Parfum 50ml, £66.00

It’s very hard to lure us Lipcote ladies from our long-time perfume staples but ‘Intense’ is a strong contender for seductive scent of spring 2014. The bottle is beautifully simple, with a decadent and opulent heavyweight feel. Think Tom Ford- Black Orchid but with less musk and more sugar sweet temptation.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company, Manicure Purse, £10.00

It was hard to settle on a favourite from The Vintage Cosmetic Company accessories range, as their signature floral prints are just so pretty and really perk up our nail maintenance routine! We especially like this compact kit which is all made from stainless steel, meaning it will last you for years to come and never date in its appeal.

ChapStick, Original lip balm, £1.10

With 120 years experience in lip care, ChapStick is a name you can trust and as much as we love trying out new lip care products, you can never beat the nostalgic smell of ChapStick Original. Putting it on takes us back to our school days safe in the knowledge that it’s doing exactly what it sets out to do; look after your lips.

Solait, BB 5-in-1 Bronzing Cream, £3.99 (usually £7.99)

Absolutely incredible coverage and added mineral pigments seem to make this the most natural looking fake tan we’ve ever used. Just a small amount on your legs looks like you’ve stepped out of an airbrushed beauty shoot and means we’re actually excited to get our pins out in the sun for once! With foolproof wash-off formula and bargain price point, we think this is a new product waiting in the sidelines for cult status very soon.

bareMinerals, READY SPF20 Foundation, £25.00

Well what can we say, this compact version of the hugely popular SPF15 loose powder foundation by bareMinerals has already won two beauty awards, and rightly so! We couldn’t get over how quickly this transformed our face and even noticed an improvement in the skin’s surface texture after a week of testing. This is definitely a product to try if you suffer from redness or acne, and is incredibly simple to blend and light to wear.

Liz Earle, Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, £13.25

They only make one cleanser for a reason, and that’s because this is the ultimate in essential, everyday pampering. The Eucalyptus helps revive the senses in the morning or after a long day, and the buttery texture of this product feels satisfyingly rich. Once polished off with the muslin cloth, our faces felt comfortably clean and smooth. This is one of those products we think we’ll be passing down generations as a must have.
