Fuchsia Fever! A Lipcote Lipstick Review

November 5, 2015

Brand Name: Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick

Colour: Fever

Price: £22

Lipcote Rating: 4.7 / 5

Hourglass scored top marks from us with their gorgeous Opaque Rouge liquid lipstick, and we couldn’t resist trying out their more classic lipsticks offering, Femme Rouge…

We chose the shade Fever, a bold, true fuchsia. A particular feature that caught our eye was that these lipsticks are refillable, unlike most others, so once you’ve used it up you can buy the refill bullet for £15, which although still pretty pricey is much cheaper than the £22 the full packaged one costs, and a slightly more sustainable way of selling makeup; imagine the positive environmental effects (not to mention how much happier our purses would be) if we only ever bought a tube, bottle or pot of makeup or skincare once, and then took it back to get refilled for just the price of the product, as oppose to the packaging too, when it ran out! Anyway, the lipstick is gloriously pigmented, with a squared-off top to assist with precise application. Fever is a really bright fuchsia, although not as neon as some others we’ve tried recently, which makes it feel suited for use all-year-round, rather than limiting itself as a ‘summer colour’. The packaging is elegant in the style we’ve come to expect from this brand – a bronze lipstick tube with the Hourglass logo cut-out of a window with a gold background behind it – and it’s heavy, with a silent shut, a bit like one of those posh kitchen cabinets that closes itself without a sound!

In case you couldn’t tell we’ve fallen head-over-heels for this brand, and particularly their bright shades like this one, which they do so well. As usual, to win it plus a Lipcote, enter via the Competitions App on our Facebook page!
