Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics say their Lip Tars combine the longevity of a lipstick with the ease of application of a gloss, and we wanted to see if the product lived up to their claims!

The Lip Tars come in loads of different shades so there’s bound to be one to suit everybody, but we chose Harlot, a fiery bright red. On application we realised that this is no usual bright red – it’s almost a neon, so bold that it kind of gave our lips the reflective properties of a fluorescent safety jacket (in a good way)! It’s definitely still a red, with coral undertones, but the brightness means that it’s perfect for an ultra-modern look, and brilliant for festivals or gigs in the summer. It’s definitely not one to use if you’re going for a vintage or classic red-lipstick look. It’s a liquid lipstick formula, and each tube comes in a little clear zip-lock pack with it’s own tiny lip brush, which is a great idea as the formula is so pigmented it stains the brush instantly so it’s good that they supply a brush with each one. You apply a tiny amount with the brush to lips, blot, and then apply again, and the shade is true to the tube, creamy and intensely pigmented. It goes on as a liquid but dries down to a satin finish, and then a sweep of Lipcote over the top helps to seal it for absolutely hours. It’s not quite as lightweight as some of the other liquid lipsticks we’ve tried, but it’s totally comfortable, and for the fabulous shade we’d gladly put up with being able to feel it ever so slightly on the lips.

We love this shade so much we’re going to be wearing it at every opportunity, with not much other makeup to really let it stand out! As usual, to win it plus a Lipcote, enter via the Competitions App on our Facebook page!
