Lipstick Brand: Barry M
Lipstick Colour: Genie
Lipcote Rating: 4/5
In honour of the passing of Barry M’s founder Barry Mero recently, we decided to review their latest unique offering to their already highly collectable lipstick range. The ‘Genie’ lipstick is a stand alone product from Barry M, listed as a development of the ‘Touch of Magic’ lipstick, one of Barry’s first cult products.
Magically altering to individual’s lip colour by reacting with alkaline levels, this formula is hard to pin down as everyone’s finished effect is different! We had two shades of pink emerge on two different tester’s in the Lipcote office. Once the unusual green formula was swiped on, one developed into a shocking neon pink, the other a more muted berry pink. Both were rosy and really brightened up the face.
The packaging is vibrant and eye-catching, with a zingy green base and candy pink top to the bullet, in order to stand out in your makeup collection! The formula works a little like a balm, with the bullet seemingly not transferring any product to the mouth as the transformation takes place. We felt a slight tingling sensation once applied, but rest assured that the ingredients are friendly and hypoallergenic.
It’s worth bearing in mind that due to its henna-like nature, this lipstick leaves a mild stain that still leaves your lips with a pinky glow the next day after wearing. A little Lipcote on first application left us amazed at how well the shade stayed sealed all day, with zero transference!
As hype around similar lipsticks spreads across beauty blogging land, we had a feeling that the Genie version by Barry M will definitely retain it’s cult-like status! X
