This week’s lipstick review is a Lovebox special! We interviewed DJ Nikki Beatnik, to find out her beauty loves, likes, and mistakes! Read on to see what she said…

Lipcote: So Nikki, straight down to business, we know you love Lipcote, but what’s your favourite lipstick brand and shade?

Nikki: I love a good red! I just discovered Bare Minerals Moxie lipsticks which are extremely moisturising. My favourite is their red shade ‘Live It Up’ and their hot pink ‘Never Say Never’ which have gorgeous bright pigments. I also love Nars Luxembourg & Mac Lady Danger; if you apply any of these with a slick of Lipcote, it will literally pop all day.

What are your 5 essential beauty products?

Lipcote aside, my 5 essential beauty products would start with mascara. The best one I have found across all makes & price ranges is 17 Va Va Voom Volume Mascara. It’s amazing for lengthening and thickening. Also Collection 2000 does the best coloured mascaras, get the electric blue and the teal and wear them on your bottom lashes for a pop of colour!

The next thing would be two Bobbi Brown concealers in Bisque and Beige. I had a Bobbi Brown tutorial at their head office after I DJ’d for Bobbi’s book launch and they taught me to layer on concealer, first the red based Bisque and then the brown/yellow based Beige; this gets rid of dark circles, spots and any other marks. Bobbi does essential beauty really well!

The third essential thing I carry is another Bobbi Brown product, her Long Wear Eyeliner, which is great for a fast make up look under the eyes with a bit of mascara, long lasting and doesn’t irritate sensitive eyes at all. I wear this every day in Smoke, a great grey/black/slate colour which suits everyone.

I also wear a good moisturiser and eye cream every day and L’Oreal Infallible 24H Ultra Long-Wear Foundation. It really lasts all day, gives good coverage and comes with its own application brush at the top so that it goes on very professionally. Sometimes when you’re travelling and going to festivals you only get time to do your make-up once in the day and if your base is good, you can just apply a red lip and you look ready to go.

My last essential is Aveda Damage Remedy Shampoo. This has saved my hair from flights and travel and bleaching it white, lilac, pink and a blue rinse! It has been my hair saviour and doesn’t contain any sulphates. Kelis told me to stop using shampoos with sulphates a while ago and it has literally changed my hair for the better.

What’s your biggest beauty luxury?

Im really ruthless when it comes to beauty products! I narrow it down to products which are brilliant and functional and I don’t always go for the most expensive, but if I like a colour, I buy a few. I do have my eye on a beautiful Tom Ford bronzer compact though which a make up artist used on a shoot recently and was gorgeous.

What’s your favourite look for when you’re on stage DJing?

The easiest look for when you are on stage is a classic black eyeliner with a flick and a good bright red lip, otherwise you can end up looking a bit washed out. This can also be done in the back of a tour bus or backstage at a festival and doesn’t need too much touching up!

What’s your ultimate beauty tip?

Pick your best feature and enhance it and have fun! I recently worked with the Pixie Woo girls and they do amazing tutorials of how to do make up which is great if you are looking for inspiration.

Have you ever had any beauty disasters?

Probably lots of them, sweating in DJ booths is not the best place to maintain amazing chic make- up!

What are your beauty tips for festivals like the ones you’re playing at this summer?

Take a good bag or bum bag so you can fit in a few beauty essentials. Carry face wipes which can be used for a multitude of things at festivals. Add 1 bright lipstick in the mix as you can touch up during the day and don’t forget your sun cream – hoping for the best in the UK!

If we were to look in your handbag, what are the products we’d find that you never leave the house without?

I’m very low maintenance I’m afraid – in my handbag you would find 2 phones, a purse, sunglasses and a red lipstick!
