We love a new way to wear lipstick in the Lipcote office, and are always on the hunt for exciting products that help switch up a lipstick look. The ‘Lip Mix’ by MAC is a fun pigment we put to the test, trying out the white version although the full range includes a wide array of base shades, even yellow or green!

The white lip mix is a rich, opaque creme that once mixed with your favourite matte or satin MAC lipstick, blends easily to provide total coverage with one layer and of course, lightens any shade to pastel lights if you wish. We tried the Lip Mix with a few other brands of lipsticks also, and most of them had exactly the same effect, so you aren’t restricted in how creative you want to be!

The emollients in this formula help soothe the mouth, great if you’re a makeup artist working on a shoot that necessitates changing lip looks often, but also equally good if you want to wear a bold and matte lip, perfect for chanelling a pale 60s retro look teamed with a heavy dose of eyeliner.

Due to its highly pigmented nature, the slight downside of this product is how heavy it feels on the mouth, and we found that the lips should be well moisturised before use so that the colour doesn’t flake off. However, with Lipcote the effect stayed strong and we’re really keen to try out even more adventurous colour combinations from the same range! X
