Nars’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are some of our favourite, easy-to-wear lip colours, and always come in on-trend, flattering shades. It’s part of the Summer 2012 Colour Collection, and although it’s not summer anymore, we thought we’d put this lippie to the test and see if the colour could work for us in the colder weather and duller light of autumn…

Never Say Never is described as a lilac rose, and we’d agree. It’s a deep-ish pink shade, shot with purple hues, so it’s an unusual and daring choice for a summer colour collection. Purples can be hard to pull off, but the pink base in this one makes it perfect to dip your toe in the purple waters, without jumping in at the deep end! It’s actually a really interesting alternative to all the corals and bright pinks that get brought out as standard every summer, and although we reckon this shade is flattering on all skin tones, it’s a particularly lovely one for darker skins, as it brings out a warmth that can get lost at this time of year, without being too dark or heavy. The finish is satin-matte, and it’s a buildable formula, so one layer gives a nice tint of colour, while two or three swipes gives you a rich, intensely pigmented pout.

Once again, we’re impressed with Nars’ offering. Although it’s from a Summer collection, we can see this shade working all year round, so it’s a winner for us! And as usual, don’t forget to look out for it in our lipstick giveaway over on our Facebook page!

Good luck!
