With the SS14 trend for nude lip looks not showing any signs of dying down, we thought it would be good to try a range of nudes with varying tones that could work with different skins. We started off with the lightest option, Sultry Sand.

This colour really is the palest nude you can imagine, and on first application looked a little scary! We can’t see this suiting many darker or warmer skin tones, unless you really want to make a statement. However, with a couple of tries this shade has a real 1960s era feel, to pair with smokey eye makeup or ‘cat eyes’ ,with a flick of black eyeliner.

The formula is creamy and feels light on the mouth, not cakey or too chalky in texture which we were worried about. The smell is also a gorgeous coconut one, a pleasant surprise and something we’ve not experienced with Maybellline products before. The casing is the same design as the other Colorsensational ones, but has a sophisticated matte nude lid to mark it out from others on your dresser.

You have to work with this colour to produce the effect you want. It has potential as a blotted down sheer nude stain, or used as a base ‘mixer’ for other brighter tones you may already crave a lighter version of. However, with its good price point, this is a colour you can afford to experiment with! X
