Lipcote Rating: 3.5 / 5

Trish McEvoy is better known in the US than the UK, but that could all change soon, with her range now sold in Harvey Nichols and Selfridges. The brand is best known for their concept of combining beauty and science, which she works on with her husband, a renowned New York dermatologist.

We chose the shade Gorgeous Red as it looked like a classic red, not too dark and not too bright. Once applied however, it wasn’t quite what we were expecting! The formula is very sheer, so with one layer it’s a pinky-bright coral, and your lips are visible through it. With another swipe it looks more like the classic red we were expecting, but the texture is still sheer, so you don’t get that velvety opacity that you would with a matte, highly pigmented colour. It’s smooth and feels quite moisturising, so a good blot with a tissue before applying Lipcote is a must, and this should also take down the shine a notch. We found that applying lip liner all over the lips before applying this lippie helps the shade appear truer to the colour in the stick. However, this could be a great red for someone who wants a lippie to ease them into bright colours, as although it’s not the boldest, it’s certainly brighter than a nude! The packaging is sleek and simple in a modern silver tube with the brand name embossed in black, and its heavy weighting makes it feel sophisticated and luxury.

All in all this lipstick’s a good compromise between colour and subtlety, but best left for those who don’t enjoy going too bold and bright! And as always, don’t miss your chance to win it over on our Facebook page.

Good luck!

Love, Lipcote x
