You may remember last year that we were supporting the very important #SmearForSmear campaign, run by Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust. Well this year we want to shout even louder about the importance of your smear test and some worrying statistics that have come to our attention  but which are completely within our power to change for the better…

1 in 3 Edit2

1 in 3 (63.3%) of 25-29 year olds are not attending their cervical smear check ups. A worrying figure when someone in the UK is diagnosed with cervical cancer every three hours. If you have never thought about attending yours, why not ask friends to see how their experience was or ask your doctor for more advice. If they can do it, so can you!

1.12mil Edit2

Of the 4.2 million women aged 25-64 invited for cervical screening during 2015-16, 1.12 million did not attend. You only need to be screened every three years up until the age of 49 and every 5 from then on. So making your appointment and taking 10 minutes out of your day is a small price to pay to potentially prevent yourself from bad news.

75%edit2

Cervical screening prevents against 75% of cervical cancers. Fantastic news, and all the more reason to get checked out!
