Shu Uemura is a cosmetics and skin care brand, founded by and named after the famous Japanese makeup artist Shu Uemura. Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte is their first matte lipstick range, so we just had to test it out…

We chose the shade MPK 375, a soft, dusky mid pink with pretty neutral undertones. The formula is intensely creamy and highly pigmented, so even with a middling shade like this one, there’s full colour pay-off and a velvety finish. Although it’s truly a matte formula, the company says it’s enriched with ceramides to moisturise lips, and it definitely felt caring and comfortable to wear, with absolutely no greasiness or shine. We’d recommend really prepping lips before you apply this, as the combination of a matte finish and a non-bright shade is unforgiving on dry or flaky lips. Exfoliate lips gently, and then apply a good non-oily lip balm, allowing it to sink in for a while before blotting any excess and then applying the lipstick. Two coats with blotting in between, and then Lipcote over the top, made this last all day and into the evening for us, and the pretty pink colour sort of warmed to our skin over that time, becoming more and more flattering throughout the day! It’s also a great option if you’re in a rush, as it’s the perfect shade to double as a brightening blush, with a tiny dab on the cheeks.

All in all, this is a great everyday lippie, and although it’s not a bold, stand-out shade, there’s a lot to be said for a product that you can throw-on daily, knowing that it’s flattering and easy to wear every time!
